Why June is so wonderful in Val Gardena

June in the Dolomites is a cut above, as they say. It’s still surprisingly quiet up in the mountains; the huts have only just opened and everything feels fresh and unspoilt. Whilst the peak season kicks off in July and August, in June you’ll have the Dolomites almost to yourselves. Perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy hiking in Val Gardena in peace and quiet.

Up close and personal with the Dolomites

Anyone who experiences the Dolomites in June will understand why we love this time of year so much: everything is there – the mountains, the trails, the huts – and noticeably fewer people. Val Gardena is rarely as quiet as it is now. The gondolas are almost empty, the atmosphere in the huts is very relaxed and cosy, and you’ll meet very few others on the hiking trails. You’ll have the most beautiful panoramas almost all to yourselves.

Where the alpine roses bloom

In mid-June, the slopes around Val Gardena are bathed in shades of rose, pink, magenta and everything in between. The alpine roses are in bloom, transforming entire alpine meadows into a sea of flowers. A natural spectacle that can only be seen for a few weeks each year.

The best routes for the alpine rose blossom? All four routes on the Sassolungo Lift Pass take you right into the heart of it. The Comici Panorama Route is particularly beautiful, where you hike through open terrain with views of the Sella Group.

A cyclist’s paradise: June in Val Gardena

June isn’t just great for hikers; it’s also the perfect time of year for cycling enthusiasts. On 6 June, all four Dolomite passes belong exclusively to cyclists during the Sellaronda Bike Day . A week later, on 13 June, the legendary HERO Südtirol Dolomites stops off in Wolkenstein: 82 kilometres and 4,200 metres of elevation gain through the Dolomites.
