Val Gardena in autumn
Nature is a treasure!
Sometimes, even we can hardly believe how lucky we are to live here. In autumn especially, it feels as though nature has let its treasure chest of beauty slip from its hands, scattering its riches across Val Gardena. Now, in September, we become truly aware of the Dolomites’ special poetry and their extraordinary aura. A few days ago, one of our dear regular guests came up with a delightful and wonderfully apt comparison. He said: “Val Gardena in autumn is like a chest full of jewels. The air is as clear and pure as rock crystal, and the light spills across the landscape like liquid gold and amber. And when a fine wine shimmers in the glass like rubies or aquamarines, the day is perfect!” With that in mind, we’d love to introduce you to the seasonal gems and treasures of autumn in the Dolomites. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure or indulgent relaxation, we bet you’ll find something to treasure here?
A sky as clear as crystal
Take a deeeep breath! And breathe out again. Can you feel it? Wonderfully cool and as clear as the purest rock crystal, the morning air fills your lungs. After the sweltering summer heat in the lowlands, it’s an absolute tonic. Autumn is the perfect time to explore the Dolomites, whether on foot or by bike. Countless mountain excursions and hiking trails start right from Hotel Fil da Mont, while the cable car just opposite whisks you up into the high mountains in no time. Once you reach the top, prepare to be amazed: the crystal-clear autumn skies make everything look incredibly sharp and almost close enough to touch. Still craving more fresh air? Race the wind and try downhill mountain biking at the bike park just behind the hote!
The light of autumn: days bathed in gold and amber
#nofilter! We bet your friends and followers will hardly believe their eyes. In September and October, the Dolomites look as though someone has turned up the colour saturation and applied a sepia filter to the landscape. The low autumn sun bathes our world in light like liquid gold and amber. It’s the perfect time to head out on a photography adventure! But sometimes, it’s just as rewarding to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and experience the moment for real, rather than through a camera lens. Wandering through the charming streets of Selva di Val Gardena, Santa Cristina and Ortisei is equally enchanting. If you appreciate traditional crafts and love discovering something special, you’re sure to find it here!
Joy in a glass: ruby and aquamarine to savour
After a busy day hiking, cycling or shopping, you’ve certainly earned a well-deserved glass of wine. In South Tyrol, autumn has always been a season for indulgence. Whether you’re sampling the delights of traditional Törggelen cuisine or enjoying sun-kissed flavours from the south, one thing should never be missing: a good glass of South Tyrolean wine. Lagrein and Vernatsch shimmer deep ruby-red in the glass, while Pinot Blanc and Ruländer evoke aquamarines and peridots. So here’s to life, to autumn in South Tyrol, and to you!
