Hiking straight from the hotel

Let’s go!

Fil da Mont is your gateway to the Dolomites. The majestic Sassolungo rises right behind our hotel, and there are enough hiking routes in the surrounding area to keep you exploring, even after several visits. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced hiker, travelling with friends or enjoying a family holiday in the Dolomites, you’ll always find a new adventure waiting.

One of South Tyrol’s finest hiking areas

UNESCO World Heritage Site

The peaks of the Dolomites are among South Tyrol’s most iconic photographic subjects. Their extraordinary beauty earned them UNESCO World Heritage status in 2009. From Plan de Gralba, the summits feel close enough to touch, inviting you to explore them on foot. And when hunger and tiredness set in, you can take a well-earned break at a cosy mountain hut, such as our Rifugio Comici hut.

A beautiful hotel in the heart of the Dolomites, right on the Sellaronda. An ideal base for skiing or hiking.

A great hotel in a perfect location in Plan de Gralba. [...] The proximity to ski lifts and trails is another major plus. Definitely worth checking out.

Is Fil da Mont a hiking hotel?

We love hikers!

Our hotel is really just your starting point for adventures in the mountains. Enjoy a leisurely lie-in before setting off straight from here on some of the most beautiful hikes in Val Gardena. The lifts right beside Fil da Mont whisk you effortlessly up into the mountains, where a true paradise for hikers and mountaineers awaits around Sassolungo.

When is the best time of year for hiking?

Always something special

As the last patches of snow melt in May, the first hikers are already setting off on the trails. In June, alpine flowers transform the high-altitude meadows into a vibrant sea of colour, soon followed by our cows happily grazing on the blooms. At the height of summer, the mild mountain air is a real treat, while autumn extends the season well into October, when the forests turn beautiful shades of red and orange.

Why are the Dolomites so popular for hiking?

A delight for visitors from near and far

As soon as you enter Val Gardena and catch sight of the Dolomites, your heart feels lighter. But just imagine how wonderful it is to get up close to these magnificent mountains on a hike! The appeal of our region lies in its blend of diverse landscapes, unspoilt nature and modern facilities, making hiking accessible and rewarding for all kinds of visitors.

Can you start hiking directly from the hotel?

Hiking or gliding upwards

The choice is yours: several beautiful routes into the Dolomites start right from Boutique Hotel Fil da Mont. If you prefer, you can take the cable car beside our hotel up into the mountains. Once there, you can continue climbing towards the rocky peaks or settle down on the sun terrace of a mountain restaurant and simply enjoy the view.

Are guided hikes available in Val Gardena?

Everything’s easier together

As our guests, you can join guided hikes organised by Val Gardena Active free of charge or at a reduced rate. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover hidden gems in the Dolomites of Val Gardena with experienced local mountain guides and learn fascinating things about the region and its people, without having to worry about planning your route.

Which alpine huts and mountain restaurants are particularly worth visiting?

We serve up delicious food in the mountains, too

Since 1955, we’ve been running the Comici-Almhütte mountain hut at the foot of Sassolungo, at an altitude of 2,154 metres. If you’re looking for a place to rest, enjoy delicious food and take in spectacular views, this is the place to be. In summer, we serve exquisite dishes inspired by fresh herbs; in winter, our speciality is fresh fish.

What is the Sassolungo Lift Pass?

You’ll only find it here!

During the summer season, all our guests receive a Sassolungo Lift Pass for the entire duration of their stay. It gives you unlimited free rides on the Piz Seteur 1, Forcella Sassolungo and Gran Paradiso lifts. The Piz Seteur lift starts right beside Hotel Fil da Mont, and a ride on the unique stand-up cabin lift at Forcella Sassolungo is an experience you really shouldn’t miss!
